Ain't it FUNKY!? Tuna Whiskey by The Coalition
Sorry Charlie, I was wasted... But I do remember hitting the play button and tossing myself into a manic frenzy of head nods and body spasms! This band is super funky, tight and no stranger to the words " Professional Musicianship! Featuring: Keyboardist Scott Healy and bassist Mike Merritt, members of the Max Weinberg 7, playing together since 1993 on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" Along with session kings, Drummer Shawn Pelton, from the "Saturday Night Live Band" and guitarist Glenn Alexander. This Mp3 has got me staggering to the beat, downstream...

Fresh Daily Mixtape
Tomorrow is Today is the latest mixtape release from Brooklyn bred emcee Fresh Daily. During a time when our airwaves are flooded with auto-tuned voices and what I refer to as “chant raps” Fresh Daily is truly a breath of fresh air.

Flight of the Conchords @ High School
Went an saw Flight of the Conchords tonight at my High School Auditorium, Berkeley High School. 1st time I've been back, all the places I used to smoke weed brought back no memories cuz I was high then. Although a lotta people were iffy on the 2nd season I still dig these cats. They were great live, whch I was also unsure of.
Arj Barker opened up for them, at least he was American and local so he kinda brought it home.
Then they got up and totally rocked it. While most people like the banter I really dig the tunes, here's one.

DOOM- Born Like This
I acquired the new DOOM the other day and have am now on about the 7th listen. DOOM delivers, the album is inspired by the works of Charles Bulkowski. Yes, the guy from Barfly. regardless of his issues with his fans and weather or not it's actually DOOM behind the mask or if DOOM is the mask it's the rhymes I like.
"The Breakup Album"
Scarlett Johansen has a new record out "The Breakup Album", that's actually pretty audible.
It's a collaboration with Peter Yorn which is waaay better than her last collaboration. It's inspired by Serge Gainsbourg’s 1960s recordings with Brigitte Bardot.
Check a track here.

Bob Marley's Whte Cousin
The Times traced Bob Marley's white half back to his closest living relative in Lifricombe, North Devon. My favorite quote, “When I first heard, I thought, 'Bloody hell, they're not going to ask me for money, are they?'.

3 Bones & a Clown on Keys
Josh Roseman is one of the coolest cats I know in the music scene. Original member of the Groove Collective, Soulive and so many others. Sometimes he trips me out with an odd one every now again, and sometimes I really dig it. Check him out with The Water Surgeons paying homage to an SF great while gigging in SF. Covering Boz Scaggs' We're All Alone . Check it.

Invinible's "ropes" feat:Tiombe Lockhart
After being accepted by mtvU, the station's standards department axed the video citing how its "suicidal undertones would be problematic" for a college audience. Ironically, Invincible and Tiombe's intention with the song is to speak openly and boldly about the prevalence of depression in our communities. With suicide being the third leading cause of death among 15-24 year-olds, "Ropes" aims to break the pattern of turning a blind eye to metal health issues, and to begin the process of healing.
"Ropes" was shot at Coney Island's Astroland on a cold, dreary and rainy day. Rumor has it that historic Astroland will soon be razed to the ground and developed into unaffordable lofts or condos, so this footage is visual preservation as well. "

Jay Lane interview:Band of Brotherz
Old time homeboy Jay Lane interviewed about his new project Band Of Brotherz, Berkeley based rap group with a lot of my old friends (CB, Zach, & Blake from Soup) as well as Grateful Dead singer guitarist Bob Weir on a few tracks. If that seems odd to you, it's because it is. Read all about it here. My name gets dropped in there someplace.

20/20 Special on Rap Music circa 1981
Fabulous historic hip hop gem. A rare 20/20 special about rap music. The end of the second clip when the older announcer says, "it's really quite infectious isn't it?" is awsome.
